Case
Study 5-Palm Valley Mobile Home Park-Orlando, Florida
Wastewater Treatment |
Background Data: |
Case Study: Wastewater Treatment |
Location: Palm Valley Mobile Home Park Orlando, Florida
The Palm Valley Mobil Home Park, located in Orlando, Florida, has
643 residential lots. 130,000 GPD of residential wastewater is
treated at their private wastewater treatment facility. Rising
costs associated with proper sludge disposal have been a concern
to the owners of the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park. |
This aerobic wastewater treatment facility has been generating an
average of 13,500 gallons of sludge per month |
Sludge disposal costs for the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park were
above $25,000.00 per year. This figure does not take man hours,
sludge press maintenance, or polymer usage into account. According
to Howard Matthis, Park Manager, the true sludge disposal costs
may be over $50,000.00 per year. |
Scope: |
It was determined that the use of PX-700 could reduce the quantity
of sludge generated at the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park, thus
reducing overall sludge disposal costs. |
PX-700, a microbial bio-catalyst, was to be used as an additive at
the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The anticipated result from the use of PX-700 was to be an overall
reduction of sludge generated by the Wastewater Treatment
Facility, thereby reducing costs associated with sludge disposal.
Facility personnel were to gather pertinent data to analytically
determine the effectiveness of PX-700. Records were maintained and
reviewed in order to determine the effectiveness of the product.
Treatment Procedures: |
On October 16, 1998, PX-700 was introduced into the headworks at
the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The only objective was to eliminate the amount of sludge
generated, and thereby reduce the cost associated with sludge
disposal. |
13.3 ounces were injected on a flow proportional bases into the
digester during each 24 hour period, this converts into 0.9 mg/l.
At the time of this writing, the dosage amount and location has
not changed. |
Results: |
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at the Palm Valley Mobil
Home Park noted a drastic change in both the facility settling
time and turbidity during the first 24 hours of use. Due to the
quicker settling time and clearer water, it was determined by
facility personnel to reduce the amount of polymer introduced into
the treatment works. |
Facility records indicate that 13,500 gallons of sludge was
generated and disposed of each month prior to the introduction of
PX-700. Records also indicate that only 3,000 gallons of sludge
per month have been disposed of after treatment with PX-700 began.
This decrease in the amount of sludge generated represents a
reduction of over 77%. |
It quickly became apparent to all involved, that the use of PX-700
significantly reduced the amount of sludge generated by the Palm
Valley Mobil Home Park Wastewater Treatment Facility |
Park Manager, Howard Matthis decided to permanently use PX-700 as
an additive to the wastewater treatment process. |
Since that time, Howard Matthis, Park Manager has indicated that
the total cost to the Palm Valley Mobil Home Park for sludge
disposal is down over 85%. |
The Palm Valley Mobil Home Park Wastewater Treatment Facility has
continued to purchase and use PX-700 through the date of this
writing. |
